BACKGROUND
Families East has a proud history of serving families and Children in the Eastern Kings region. The Eastern Kings Community Coalition was established in 1994 when a group of community residents came together to discuss what services were needed for Children in our area. This group of people formed a coalition and applied to Health Canada (under the Community Action Program for Children; CAPC and the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program; CPNP) for funding to start the Family Resource Centre.
The Centre opened its doors in January 1995 under the name Lend-a-Hand Family Resource Centre.
In 2003, we changed our name of Main Street Family Resource Centre. After changing locations in 2018, we recently changed our name to Families East Resource Centre to reflect the region we serve. No matter how many names we have had or locations we served from, our primary focus is that of families and Children in the Eastern Kings area. We are proud to be one of the seven Family Resource Centres across PEI working together to enhance Island families.
